I really love the arts in Los Angeles. I also love the fact that you can almost crash your car from staring into amazement at some of the creations from some of the worlds most talented artists. Buildings, Trucks, Sidewalks have become canvasses in the city helping promote some of the wildest, wackiest and coolest most thought-provoking work ever seen to our generation.
This past weekend after leaving an interview with another artist, I drove down Wilshire Blvd on the way back home in search of something to eat when all of a sudden, BOOM! It was right in my face! I looked over to my friend and said “Yo is that the Berlin Wall?” She replied “I think it is!”. Before she could even finish the statement I was already weaving through traffic looking for a spot to leave my car (I said leave not park..lol) and go see the huge piece of history.
When I got closer I realized that this was not only history but Art History! Local graffiti artists got the opportunity to put their art on one of the world most famous brick structures and it turned out amazing! The one artist that was immediately familiar to me was Retna because of his signature style. The other artists have now caught my eye because of the great messages and images they put on the wall.
I think its great that we keep these pieces of history and incorporate them in our everyday lives. For me it was a symbol of tearing down hate and creating love. in the 1980’s no one would’ve almost wrecked their car to be anywhere near the Berlin Wall. Now that’s changed. 🙂 – ArtAboveReality
